SgurrEnergy Case Study

The Background

SgurrEnergy is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy specialising in renewable energy. They have the capability to deliver at every phase of a project, from early stages of site selection, feasibility and design through to project management of the construction phase and operation and maintenance consultancy. Its team of over 100 engineers and consultants has extensive sustainable energy experience worldwide, operating in over four countries across five continents.

SgurrEnergy has expertise in wind, hydro, solar, marine, wave and biomass projects.  To date it has assessed over 65,000MW of renewable energy development internationally, a rapidly growing figure every month.

Their clients include utilities, financiers, developers and many other public and private sector organisations.

The Challenge
Prior to working with Daisy, SgurrEnergy worked with Nessco which has since been acquired by Daisy, who supplied the business with its VoIP services and landlines. In the past, SgurrEnergy used a number of different suppliers to provide its core IT infrastructure.

SgurrEnergy decided it would be a better option to unify all its communications with one provider. As a rapidly growing business, SgurrEnergy needed a level of service which would support the company during its expansion.

The Solution
Stevie Eccleson, IT Manager at SgurrEnergy said: “We met with Daisy’s key Account Managers for Scotland and had several discussions about what our key services are here at SgurrEnergy and Daisy was able to provide us with assurances that they could help us going forward.
We have a good working relationship with our Account Manager, Ronnie McCabe. Any issues which have arisen have been dealt with in a professional manner and Ronnie’s influence and support was a deciding factor when choosing Daisy as the supplier for our key services.”

Currently Daisy supplies SgurrEnergy with calls, lines and select services at their Glasgow office, as well as providing maintenance on their Mitel 3300 telephone system.

Daisy is also now the supplier for all SgurrEnergy’s business mobile communications, providing their mobile phones, BlackBerrys and USB Internet dongles.

The Result
“Now with Daisy, we are using O2 as our network provider, whereas previously we used a different supplier and were part of the Vodafone network. To date, we are very happy with what Daisy and O2 have done for us.

I think it’s important that we keep in constant dialogue with Daisy, as there are a number of services which we rely on. Our account manager keeps us up-to-date with any new technologies which he feels may be of benefit to SgurrEnergy.”

The Future
Stevie continued: “Daisy has recommended several upgrade paths which we are now looking at investing in, and in 2012 we plan to upgrade our Mitel MX Controller which handles our VOIP system.

In addition to this, we are also considering investing in Mitel’s AWC Web conferencing facility; we have trialled it and are happy with what the system can offer us. Daisy will also be supporting us with our office expansion plans for 2012.”
