Greggs Case Study

‘The cost savings achieved by consolidating their supply chain has funded a Next Generation Network for Greggs.’

Greggs is the leading bakery retailer in the UK. Expert bakers for the last 70 years, Greggs now supply their 1,400 shops from 10 regional bakeries via their own fleet of 375 delivery vehicles.

Business Needs - In Brief

Greggs needed a better infrastructure to connect with their branch networks, consolidating suppliers, reducing costs and improving service.

Solution

Daisy recommended a consolidated solution delivering a secure corporate and branch network, voice and support services.

Outcomes

Daisy has delivered a Next Generation Network funded by savings achieved consolidating the supply chain.

Business Needs - In Detail

Greggs were looking for a long term solution that would grow as the business developed and enable them to deliver customer-focussed initiatives. Greggs Head of IT said, “We felt that our existing dial-up solution presented us with limitations in terms of general service availability. We were also being asked to roll out several initiatives which would require a faster, more reliable and secure network.”

“We needed to find a cost-effective solution that would enable us to modernise our communications infrastructure and expand our business at an increased pace. We needed to make sure we found a new system which would be up to the same standards of those which other retailers were adopting, including a secure network for chip and PIN transactions that would assist us to achieve PCI-Data Security Standard compliance.”

Solution

In order to meet Greggs’ needs, Daisy proposed a reliable, cost-effective private IP-VPN shop network solution. The fully managed solution is scalable and flexible, with a bandwidth that could be upgraded quickly to unify communications and support voice, streaming video and IPCCTV as required. During the transitional period, Daisy would provide 24 x 7 support and service management for the core MPLS network and fixed link into the Greggs Head Office.

Outcomes

Daisy’s solution provides Greggs with a robust, secure network that is adaptable to their needs, so they can add or remove shops and other site locations as the business grows. By working with a single supplier, Greggs benefit from the focussed support of the Daisy service delivery teams, with simplified billing, reporting and management information.

One of the key outcomes of the project is that the savings achieved by consolidating all of their voice and data services has enabled Greggs to roll-out a secure broadband network to their shops, without the need for additional investment.

A consolidated platform has significantly reduced costs and provided an integrated network between their head office and branch sites. This ensures a more efficient service and facilitates cost effective sharing and roll outs of applications and systems, and the ability to move towards a unified communications infrastructure when the business needs it.

“By working with Daisy we have achieved our target of deploying a Next Generation Network that is funded by savings achieved from reviewing our supply chain and selecting a single supplier for all of our telecoms services.”
