Cancer Research Case Study

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. The charity’s ground-breaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives. This work is funded entirely by the public.

Cancer Research UK has been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last forty years. It supports research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses. Together with its partners and supporters, Cancer Research UK's vision is to beat cancer.

As part of its fund-raising efforts, Cancer Research UK has nearly 600 charity shops located around the UK where the public are able to both donate and purchase goods.

The Challenge
With a new Electronic Point of Sale (EpoS) system due to be installed throughout Cancer Research UK’s 600 charity stores, the customer required an efficient and dependable broadband network.

As well as providing a reliable broadband infrastructure, the customer was looking for a cost-effective solution that would allow the organisation to invest more capital back into its research.

The Solution
After reviewing Cancer Research UK’s objectives, Daisy understood that by taking up Daisy’s ‘Free Broadband for a Year’ offering, the customer would have the reliable broadband connections that they needed and would have the amount of a year’s worth of internet costs to fund its research.

Daisy installed 537 broadband connections to consolidate Cancer Research UK’s retail outlets located throughout the UK.

In addition to the broadband access, Daisy was assigned to work in partnership with retail systems provider – Cybertill – to meet the tight deadline which had been agreed to implement a new EPoS system into the stores.

The Result
Paul Feldman, IS Director at Cancer Research UK says: “We were really pleased with the free broadband for a year offer.  It has allowed us to make significant savings, meaning we have more money available to fund our lifesaving work to beat cancer.
“Daisy’s focus during the roll-out has been great and they have been a key part of our team.”

As part of the ‘free broadband for a year’ offering, it is predicted that Cancer Research UK will benefit from savings of over £120,000 in its first year and over £30,000 in the second year of its two year agreement.

The ‘free broadband only’ package will allow Cancer Research UK to download at speeds of up to 24Mb and 50GB download allowance per month.
